X-SESSION

How do we create a character beyond the sphere of a 'pasted on' vocal performance? Learning to explore a character physically using the study of energy center, gravity, and the inspiration of animals to create three-dimensional people that live in our imagination and with a muscular connection that fuels our imagination and adds greater layers and nuance. How this work allows us to switch effortlessly from character to character without feeling disconnected or working only from the 'outside'. Learning how emotion and character follow physical commitment. How to think physically while still being seated in the booth. The value of the psychological gesture. Examine the text and work in communication with the author and your imagination to ask a series of questions that help you see even the most minor character in your imagination in great detail. Taking a character seriously and approaching each voice as if it might be the main character in its own story.

Takeaway 1 - The value, even as a narrator seated in a chair of embracing the physicalization of a character.
Takeaway 2 - How embodying the character as a three-dimensional physical being tap into greater vocal specificity, nuance, and connectedness.
Takeaway 3 - The textual and imagination-based questions we can ask to help make even minor characters fully dimensional and emotionally connected.
